All those wishing there was someone out there making music, in church, that rocks your utter face off, please stand back as I introduce Lee McDerment.
Not a new dude to worship music, Lee has been making this stuff for awhile but I just got into him about a week ago looking at Tara-Leigh Cobble’s virb page. Couldn’t be more excited to hear more from him, but I digress, let’s go into why his new record “A Matchlight in the Dark” is quite possibly the standard by which worship services shall be measured. You thought I was gonna say Steve Fee huh? Just Kidding Fee (seriously).
The cd starts out with “Our God Is Love”. What better way to say that than in the midst of chunking guitar distortion and squiddle-bot ear candy. Then punishes you with “Uncontainable + Overcome”, which feels like a twin tornado of fist pumping, 1952 Gibson Dreadnaught thumpery. Then he lets you down gently as if to say, “I’ve rocked you, now I will tuck you in,” with, “All Your Waves and Breakers”.
Full bodied mix coupled with a supple amount of lyrical sophistication, Lee has made something that not only makes you excited that it came from a Christ follower, but gets you excited to worship God. Win/Win/Win.
